A Message from Pastor Joe!
“Three Exciting New Additions to Our Staff”

I am thrilled to announce the addition of three men who have been called to serve on our church staff. All three will be in place by July 1, 2005. I love these men and know they will be a tremendous asset to the Lord’s work here on North Rock Road.

I ask that you pray for them and encourage them as they come to serve with us. Doug and George will serve as pastors and Aaron is already directing our Counseling Center.

I love you!

Doug Barker
Singles & Involvement Pastor

George W. Wood
Senior Adults Pastor

Doug Barker entered the ministry in 1974 and for the past 17 years has served congregations in Texas and Arkansas as Senior Pastor and since 1991, as an Associate Pastor. He is a graduate of Berean University in Springfield, Missouri. Doug has written three leadership manuals and his expertise is often sought after by CEO’s and Senior Pastors.

Presently, Doug is serving as the Associate Pastor of Faithworld in Orlando, Florida, a congregation of over 6,000 comprised of 32 different nationalities.

Doug and his wife, Janice, look forward to joining our Central family and using their gifts in working with us. Doug will be overseeing all of our singles’ ministries, with the exception of the college age, as well as providing leadership and oversight in the area of involvement.

His experience and love of people will be a tremendous asset to our ministry team.

-- George Wood is a familiar face here at Central and loved by many. He served as senior pastor here at Central from 1970-1981 and led the congregation, which formerly met downtown, to our present location on North Rock Road.

George was born in Melbourne, Australia in 1931 and entered the ministry in 1952. Prior to coming to the United States, George pastored three different churches in Australia, in addition to being involved in several ministries across the country. Upon his departure from Central Christian, George and his wife, Betty, continued to be involved in full-time ministry both in the United States and Australia.

George’s beloved wife, Betty, went home to be with the Lord last year. He has five married children and 17 grandchildren.

I am thrilled to have George “return back home” to Central and serve on our pastoral staff. He will be leading our senior adults ministry and is very excited about the opportunities ahead.

Aaron Scharenberg
Counseling Center Director

Over the past 12+ years, the Central Christian Counseling Center has touched many lives under the direction and leadership of Greg Spillman, who birthed the Center back in 1993.

Greg’s vision for the Center crystallized as he met with the elders and leaders at Central Christian Church and they shared a common desire to form a Counseling ministry. The mission was formed, “to provide quality, professional therapy services, from a Christian perspective, to individuals, couples, and families.” Over the years the center has grown from one person to a full team of therapists serving hundreds of individuals and families.

This past year, Greg felt a calling to a ministry out of state. With a solid foundation in place, Greg left the center. Now as we look to the future, I would like to introduce myself as the new director of the Center. My name is Aaron Scharenberg. I am humbled and excited about the opportunity of serving at the Counseling Center.

I am a graduate of Denver Seminary where I received a Master’s degree in Counseling. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I am looking forward to furthering the Center’s vision.

My heart is that the center will remain committed to its primary purpose of ministering to others while continuing to expand and touch more lives. In Matthew 15, we see a picture of Jesus sitting on a mountainside, and “great crowds came to him, bringing him the lame, the blind, the crippled, the mute and many others, and laid them at his feet; and he healed them.” My prayer is that the center will be an instrument used by God to touch those of us who are hurting in our world. Each of us at some time or place, face difficult times. We here at the Center want to extend our hands to you. We accept some insurances and we have a sliding scale fee so that we can meet your need no matter what your financial situation.

If we can help, please call us. You can reach us at 683-4083.
We are located at 2900 North Rock Road in Wichita. We hope to hear from you in your time of need.
